Some of these elements remain, but because of the intentional changes made to other features, presentation, and imagery, it feels more like an inheritance from Fallout 3 than an intentional choice by Obsidian. Gone are super mutants and raiders, the ever present red markers on your mini-map that beckoned you to fill them with lead, and with the right perk choice, make them explode into gibs. Now, a year later, I’m playing Fallout: New Vegas for the first time (that level 3 save file from 2015 doesn’t count) and can easily see the ways developer Obsidian reinterpreted the violence inherited from Fallout 3. No need to think about mowing down whatever moves when everything that moves is out to kill you and makes their home among the blood of other wanderers. Full of super mutants and raiders who attacked on sight, slow-motion VATS executions that resulted in exploding heads, buildings full of mutilated corpses and torsos hung up on hooks, Fallout 3′s Capital Wasteland was a place that beckoned the player to reflect its own violence back onto it.

About a year ago I started replaying Fallout 3 and noticed the way it handled the violence of the wasteland.
